The Calgary Innovation Coalition (CIC) is a network of agencies in Calgary and the surrounding municipalities that support innovation-driven ventures.
Our collective presents a single vision and voice regarding the priorities of the Calgary region's innovation community, a unique model for collaboration in Alberta’s innovation ecosystem. The Calgary Innovation Coalition is proud to be supported by Alberta Innovates’ Regional Innovation Network (RIN) program, a government funding initiative that helps us drive economic prosperity in the region by supporting innovation-driven entrepreneurs, startups and enterprises.
The CIC is looking for a full-time Program Manager to start immediately
Responsibilities
Serve as an Ambassador:
-
Represent CIC in the community, building strong connections with startups, ecosystem partners, funders, and the general public.
Stakeholder Relations and Advocacy:
-
Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Alberta Innovates and the Alberta Innovation Network (AIN) across the province, comprising other Regional Innovation Networks (RINs).

Represent CIC at Alberta Innovation Network monthly meetings, and bi-annual gatherings, sharing insights, progress, and best practices to drive collective goals.
Community Engagement and Listening

Act as a point of contact for ecosystem stakeholders and member organizations, gathering insights, facilitating open exchanges, and integrating feedback to refine CIC programming.
Oversight, Monitoring, and Reporting:

Develop and manage initiatives in partnership with CIC member organizations.

Prepare comprehensive reports, metrics, and success stories for program funders, meeting all funder and board reporting requirements.

Regularly gather community feedback to identify opportunities for program enhancement and to respond to emerging trends.
Budget and Financial Management:
-
Oversee monthly budgets as approved by the board, and monitor contracts and expenses.

Support the Contract Holder with financial reporting by ensuring expenses align to the approved budget and are submitted in a timely manner.
Supervise CIC Program Coordinator:

Responsible for the recruiting, hiring, and management of the Program Coordinator

Supervise and guide the Program Coordinator’s activities, ensuring alignment with CIC goals and efficient program execution.

Provide mentorship, feedback, support, and resources to enhance the Program Coordinator's contributions to CIC projects and initiatives.

Oversee task prioritization, goal-setting, and progress monitoring to ensure effective program support.
Lead and Facilitate Meetings:

Conduct monthly CIC Board meetings in collaboration with the Board Chair to govern and review initiatives with professionalism, transparency and collaboration.

Engage in monthly CIC Membership meetings, fostering operational alignment and sharing updates across the community.

Co-organize annual CIC Membership General Assembly meeting to communicate major developments and foster collective input.

Priority Areas for 2025/2026
The CIC must strategically plan and develop a funding proposal for Alberta Innovates in 2025 that will cover the next three years of CIC activities and operations. Key priorities include:
Funding Proposal:

Collaborate with the CIC Board, committees, and partners to develop a compelling three-year funding proposal, aligning strategically with Alberta Innovates’ goals and setting measurable outcomes to advance Calgary’s innovation ecosystem.

Engage with stakeholders and work with the CIC and Alberta Innovates through the funding approval process.
Ecosystem Alignment and Collaboration:

Foster strong connections between CIC member organizations to create cohesive support for tech startups.

Increase cross-collaboration with community stakeholders, leveraging shared knowledge, best practices, and partnerships to strengthen the ecosystem.

Identify and measure key areas of improvement or growth in the innovation ecosystem and develop strategies to support these areas.
Ecosystem Reporting:

Collate research from member organizations, ecosystem studies and program metrics to provide data-backed insights in all reports to stakeholders, highlighting trends, program effectiveness, and growth opportunities.

Track ecosystem impacts and outcomes.
Improve Accountability, Board, and Committee Management:

Strengthen CIC’s reporting to ensure transparency on financial allocations, program impacts, and performance metrics.

Foster a culture of accountability within CIC, ensuring that all initiatives align with established benchmarks and provide clear value to the innovation community.
Board and Committee Management

Manage CIC’s Board and committees, ensuring consistent oversight, clear governance, and alignment of committee activities with CIC’s strategic goals and priorities.
Accountabilities

The CIC Program Manager reports directly to the CIC Board of Directors.
Term & Compensation
-
This is a one-year Full-time contract position, extendable by collective agreement. Compensation is between $90,000 and $110,000 per year plus GST. The contractor is responsible for all personal benefits, and tax remittances. Reasonable business expenses will be reimbursed.
